The Waikato Champs 2012 tournament on Saturday 31st March went well.
Micah won his division, there was only him & Chaynne; the first round was a draw & about 10 seconds into the 2nd round Chaynne knocked Micah out with an illegal punch to the head. Micah couldn’t continue so won by default. There was head high punches flying all throughout the fight, it seemed when the body punch missed the target it would often keep following through to head height; Chaynne has always had this problem with rouge accidental head punches and needs to seriously work on this issue. (Have a look & the video)
Charlie won the Masters; there were 2 other guys in his division both of them with way more experience than him. They all fought each other with a round robin. Each fight was long & hard with close decisions but Charlie’s grit & determination prevailed in the end.
Rhendy won the Black Belt Kata division performing Sushiho.
Lachlan lost his first fight, he was winning but dropped his hands when he felt he was on top & was starting to give his opponent the smash & was caught by a well timed mawashi geri from his opponent.
Kelan did an awesome kata (Geikesai Sho) with no placing but was up against some stiff competition.
In Kata Matija performed a nice Pinan sono Ni with no placing. In the fighting she won her first fight scoring a well timed kick to her opponents head. In her second fight she ended up fighting the girl who won the division, Matija fought well but the girl was bigger & stronger and lost by decision.
All & all a good result & everyone can hold there heads up high as they are all winners as far as all at Papakura Kyokushin are concerned.
